Dřevořezání
Dřevořezání is a symbol of living folk carving. It was held for the first time in 2002. It is a regular summer meeting of woodcarvers from different parts of our country, but also abroad, which Třešť is alive with on the holidays of July 5 and 6. Visitors are thus offered a unique opportunity to see the carvers directly at work. And not only that. They can admire the beauty created under their hands.
It has become a custom that, in addition to a friendly meeting and exchange of experiences, the carvers work for two days on new figurines or structures, with which they subsequently enrich the common nativity scene, which is located year-round in the exhibition at the J. A. Schumpeter House. In 2022, the nativity scene counted around 1,350 figurines. All figurines are carved from linden wood and are unpainted.
Up into the new decade
Dřevořezání is organized by the Society of Friends of Nativity Scenes in Třešť. Its twentieth jubilee year took place in 2022. To mark the jubilee, the Nativity workers gave each other an annual book mapping the existence of this carving holiday. The friendly Society of Příbram Nativity Scenes issued a joint commemorative coin on this occasion.
